Welcome to our latest junk removal adventure, where we ditched our usual trashy routes to visit one of Cincinnati’s coolest spots, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. As a local junk removal company, we know a thing or two about history, and this museum was like stepping back in time to learn about the brave souls who escaped slavery through the Underground Railroad.
First things first, the building itself is a work of art. The modern design coupled with the historic significance of the location gives off a vibe of freedom and hope. We were excited to explore what was inside and discover more about the journey of the Underground Railroad.
Once inside, we were transported to the past as we followed the trail of escaping slaves through the museum. The exhibits were eye-opening and made us feel a deep connection to the hardships that so many people faced during this time. As we studied things up and there and learned on the exhibits we were truly amazed and even shocked to learn about the brave men and women who risked their lives to fight for the freedom of those enslaved.
One of our favorite exhibits was the “Brothers of the Borderland” display. It told the story of the slave-holding states bordering free states and how the abolitionist movement grew in these areas. We were impressed with how interactive the exhibit was, with hands-on displays and videos that gave us a true understanding of the complexity of the time period.
Another highlight was the “Escape! Freedom Seekers and the Underground Railroad” exhibit. It took us on a journey through the steps that escaping slaves had to take to make it to freedom. From hiding in a secret compartment in a wagon to disguising oneself as a sailor, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the ingenuity of those seeking freedom.
The museum also features many important historical artifacts, including a replica of the slave pen used in the movie “12 Years a Slave.” It was a somber moment when we saw the cramped quarters that slaves were forced to endure, but it also made us appreciate the bravery and determination of those who fought for freedom.
Overall, our trip to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center was a memorable one. We left feeling inspired and proud to live in a city that celebrates freedom and equality. As a junk removal company, we may spend most of our days hauling away unwanted items, but taking a break to explore Cincinnati’s rich history is always a welcome change of pace.
So, if you’re ever in the area, we highly recommend stopping by this awesome museum. It’s a chance to step back in time and learn about the heroes who fought for freedom, all while enjoying a fun and educational experience.
And who knows, maybe you’ll even find some hidden treasures to add to your collection that we can help you dispose of on our next junk removal adventure. Check out this place.
